RMSC To Temporarily Close For Annual Fall Cleaning, September 13-24
ROCHESTER, NY, September 8, 2021 – Every September, the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) Museum and Strasenburgh Planetarium temporarily close for its annual deep cleaning. This year, the RMSC Museum will be closed from September 13-24, and the RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium will be closed from September 13 - 20.
The RMSC Strasenburgh Planetarium will reopen on Tuesday, September 21, with shows available to the public every day of the week. The RMSC Museum will reopen the following Saturday, September 25.
During this time, RMSC undertakes facilities projects, such as painting and deep cleaning inside of exhibit display cases, that staff aren’t able to do while open to the public.
“Closing for deep cleaning and painting helps us to bring our visitors wonderful experiences throughout the year. This annual closure is held during September when RMSC typically experiences our lowest visitation, and allows us to complete projects that would negatively impact our visitor’s experiences, like shutting down Expedition Earth to clean the dust off Murray the Mastodon and his taxidermied neighbors,” said Hillary Olson, President & CEO of the RMSC.
